Workshops

We are planning 6 workshops on applications of the R statistical package, which are held the day before the conference (15.10, Wednesday). Each workshop will last 4 hours and will be held at the University of Economics in Poznan. To register for the workshops, please fill out the registration form.

Admission will be determined by the order of applications and payments. Information about the number of participants per workshop and the availability of workshops can be found in available places. For each workshop, admission is limited to 25 participants.

The fee for a single workshop is 50 PLN (incl. training materials and coffee break). Please make a bank transfer using the following information:

We offer the following workshops:

Morning Workshops (9am - 1pm)
Topic: Introduction to R
Lecturers: Alicja Szabelska, Joanna Zyprych-Walczak (Department of Mathematical and Statistical Methods, Poznan University of Life Sciences)
Description: The main aim of the workshop is to introduce the participants to the statistical package R and RStudio environment.
Requirements: Basic usage of computer.

Topic: Analysis of complex surveys using survey package
Lecturer: Maciej Beręsewicz (Department of Statistics, Poznan University of Economics)
Description: The aim of the workshop is to present possibilities of using the 'survey' library for the analysis of data from surveys.
Requirements: Knowledge of R and RStudio, the basics of statistics and representative methods

Topic: Analysis of spatial data in R
Lecturer: Jakub Nowosad (Institute of Geoecology and Geoinformation, Adam Mickiewicz University)
Description: The workshop aims at presenting the possibilities of reading, processing, analyzing and visualizing spatial data (both natural and socio-economic) using available R packages.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of R.
Afternoon Workshops (2pm - 6pm)
Topic: Exploration of geospatial data in R
Lecturer: Jarosław Jasiewicz (Institute of Geoecology and Geoinformation, Adam Mickiewicz University)
Description: The aim of the workshop is to familiarize participants with the techniques of data exploration using R. The training includes two tasks: unsupervised classification using self-organizing maps in the ‘kohonen’ package ; classification and regression with usage of trees from the 'rpart' package. The workshop will cover the initial data preparation, data processing and data conversion back to the spatial model.
Requirements: General knowledge of R and structures in R. Knowledge of geospatial structures (sp) is not required but will be helpful.

Topic: Data visualization in R (in english)
Lecturer: Adolfo Alvarez (Analyx)
Description: The aim of the workshop is to present data visualization techniques.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of R.

Topic: Processing of large data sets using the package data.table
Lecturer: Kamil Wilak (Department of Statistics, Poznan University of Economics)
Description: The aim of the workshop is to show how the 'data.table' package can speed up the calculations performed on large data sets.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of R.
